He specialist

I think HS students need to be taught more about ADA on a general basis. Non disabled students will learn about the acceptance of diversity. Disabled student will learn about their rights. Most students learn about IEPs, then the 504 act, for college students but nothing about how to get accommodations in the workforce. The employee must know how to seek out accommodations.

Understanding All Kind of Disabilities - Diagnosed or Not!

Many Americans face series of undiagnosed impairments and disabilities of various types. They are undiagnosed and affect their everyday life because they do not have a voice. Impilicit Bias

We as a society have a major issue with Implicit Bias. Individuals with disabilities will not have opportunities to jobs and/or well paying jobs until we can over come implicit bias. It starts with parents, doctors, unaware educators in our elementary schools and continues in high school and through adulthood with rehabilitation counselors. If these professionals continue to feed into the stereotypical bias regarding... more »

Don't let vulnerable jobseekers slip through the cracks

Youth with disabilities from underserved communities need help transitioning from school to work, especially when they are in places like juvenile detention facilities or other institutional settings. We need to ensure resources are going to them and not just students in traditional high school settings.

Outreach and employment services also need to focus on folks in prison and other detention centers when they are... more »

Build Up Vocational and Technical Training in High Schools

Many individuals with intellectual disabilities have strengths in hands on technical and vocational skills including plumbing, auto mechanics, electric, etc.; however, many high school VoTech programs have been phased out leaving no way for these individuals to excel in preparing for life after high school. Funds should be earmarked for re-introducing and/or expanding these programs at the high school level. These jobs... more »

Campaign for Disability Employment

I think it would be a great idea to expand on the Campaign for Disability Employment (CDE) in every aspect including finding jobseekers and employees with disabilities in underserved communities. We've been a supporter of the CDE for a little over a year and there are a few very useful resources on the site for us, including free posters and public service announcements (PSA's). A major obstacle in hiring these individuals... more »

Federal agencies: hiring, keeping, promoting staff w/ disability

Problem: Hiring, Retaining, Promoting Employees with Disabilities in Federal Government, the largest single-employer of current and potential workers in the United States

The employers should have training on topics of persons with disabilities.Do you know that people with disabilities are being vanished.Their resumes are sent to file 13 and overlooked but yet there are regulations that are supposed to be in place for people with disabilities. Its not fair!

Retaining People With Disabilities

We have hired disabled individuals, now how do we retain them. One idea: Providing people with disabilities who are already hired information/courses to enable them to be better prepared themselves to qualify for promotional opportunities. A one stop shop that provides links to courses, mentors, coaching, IDP recommendations, etc. less intimidating causing people to give up. These important career enhancing products/ideas... more »

People who use AAC rarely are hired to work a full time job

Augmentative alternative communication is a tool that helps people communicate when they are unable to use their voice. Many of these people go on to get a college degree and even some get a masters degree. However, only 10% of this population work over 30 hours a week. 85% of this population are unemployed. This is a very under used population and it is a population that could very much contribute to the work force in... more »

Accommodation system is a disaster

I worked in civil service. Asking for accommodation was always huge deal. The disability office did its best to scare you out of asking for help. Workers immediately found out and treated me like it was favoritism rather than genuine help. Offices were given the option to ignore my accommodation last at the discretion of the supervisor, who withheld accommodations because she disliked me.

This process should not be a... more »

Jobseekers Focus Group

A Focus Group entitled Equity is Everything would be helpful.

The Focus Group would have surveys and discussions to find out what people really need.

How do we know if we don't ask?

Questions:

1. What career fields interest you?

2. Are there any accomodations you need to work in that field?

3. Is virtual work a possibility for you?

4. What type of internet service do

you currently use?

Thanks for completing... more »
