Understanding All Kind of Disabilities - Diagnosed or Not!

Many Americans face series of undiagnosed impairments and disabilities of various types. They are undiagnosed and affect their everyday life because they do not have a voice. He specialist

I think HS students need to be taught more about ADA on a general basis. Non disabled students will learn about the acceptance of diversity. Disabled student will learn about their rights. Most students learn about IEPs, then the 504 act, for college students but nothing about how to get accommodations in the workforce. The employee must know how to seek out accommodations.

Campaign for Disability Employment

I think it would be a great idea to expand on the Campaign for Disability Employment (CDE) in every aspect including finding jobseekers and employees with disabilities in underserved communities. We've been a supporter of the CDE for a little over a year and there are a few very useful resources on the site for us, including free posters and public service announcements (PSA's). A major obstacle in hiring these individuals... more »

Impilicit Bias

We as a society have a major issue with Implicit Bias. Individuals with disabilities will not have opportunities to jobs and/or well paying jobs until we can over come implicit bias. It starts with parents, doctors, unaware educators in our elementary schools and continues in high school and through adulthood with rehabilitation counselors. If these professionals continue to feed into the stereotypical bias regarding... more »

The Rural Challenges

Living in a rural area makes employment very challenging. Especially if you have a disability. We need education, transportation, transportation, and transportation. We also need internship opportunities and often, personal care assistance. As someone (a quadriplegic) who wants a federal job, it's disheartening to see VR Counselors declaring people with partial hearing loss in one ear, mild diabetes, or mood disorders... more »

Searching for employment for over a year

I had to file a compliant with the Office of Equal Opportunity this year when I was denied access to complete my application for a federal job because I could not provide proof of disability in time. However, the only method of providing my evidence was via fax machine. This was in the middle of the pandemic when we were still entirely shutdown in my area. I did not have access to a fax machine. The email I was given... more »

Community Career Counseling Sessions

Many schools are offering career counseling to their students in some places for those who are developmentally challenged. This idea needs to be expanded to include those who are challenged with criminal backgrounds, emotionally-challenged, low self-esteem and a history of poor role models. I taught career counseling for the homeless shelters in CA for eight years. One of the first challenges I gave my students was this... more »
